Raspberry Pi 3 with Official 7" LCD Display using Version 0.5.2 Branch aosp-7.1 Rel Date 18.12.2017

I need help. I have tried to run this version of software on my RPi3 both outputting to the LCD Display and HDMI display with no success. I'll see if I can post pics to this discussion so that folks can see the kinds of errors I am getting.

  • It seems I can't post pics here. Suffice to say I am seeing backtraces for all 4 cores. Happens around 2.08 seconds. I can't tell where exactly where it is failing. On the LCD power up, I can see that it complains of no ethernet found (and it does exist and works with Raspian). Says it found 5 USB devices (kbd is all I have), no storage devices (true). It seems to have found a U-Boot script /boot.scr.uimg, reads it in 11ms. Then it executes a script at 02000000, reading zImage. 7472072 bytes read in 666 ms. Reading ramdisk.uimg, 1547931 bytes read in 154 ms. Then it proceeds to "Loading init Ramdisk from Legacy Image", checksum ok. Other information in there but the next thing looking promising was "Starting kernel ..." I see a bunch of printed lines, seem normal till 1.372050 seconds. I see it doing an ALSO devist list at 1.355175, a SELinux at 1.393743, init starting at 1.442210. Got to part where is says "Coldboot took 0.17s". Looks like E M T E R I A is annunciating at 1.803478. at 2.002455 EXT4-fs error (device mmblk0p4): ext4_mb_generate_buddy:758: group 64, block bitmap and bg descriptor inconsistent: 0 vs 24544 free clusters. Then it aborts the journal on that device. Which proceeds to a Kernel panic - not syncing: ... at 2.027355.

So the kernel is panicing and the maybe the issue is with corruption?

I'll re flash the image again and try again.

  • I installed from Windows 7 and Ubuntu 16.04 OS's to the SDCARD using the Emteria installer. And both times it failed. Are there any log files anywhere I can post? I don't see a /var folder.

  • Well I got my hands on a 0.5.0 version and it still crashes in the same way. I don't know if it is something with my RPi3 or my SDCARD. I am using an SanDisk Extreme Pro 16 GB .

    • You can actually post images, if you can upload them somewhere else
    • Logs can be saved only after the sdcard was successfully mounted (which seems to be the problem in your case). There are two paths to look for log files: /data/misc/logd and /data/cache/logs
    • The device mmblk0p4 is your "userdata" partition, which is the biggest partition on the sdcard. It looks like it is corrupted (which could mean the sdcard itself is corrupted).

I've tested the latest image with all of my sdcards (8 in total) and couldn't reproduce the issue. Is there a way for you to test another sdcard?

  • I have tried a different sdcard and it has the same result. I have reinstalled raspian on both cards and it works fine. Maybe if I can get the SDCARD to a "blank" or "init" state before flashing?

  • Looks like oem and userdata partitions are empty

  • Here is the log file, no errors indicating any copying issues.

Yes, those partitions should be empty after install (they will be filled after the first boot). Please try formatting one of your sdcards to something else (like fat32 - full size). Raspbian is way smaller than Android and its main partition doesn't start as late, as Android's. So there is a chance than Raspbian doesn't get to corrupted blocks or just ignores errors.

Can you please take a picture (or record a video) of the screen and post it here? Or just send it to support (at) emteria.com.

  • I have tried this again to no avail. Is there any other way to load the partitions with data aside from using your flash tool? I can't send the video as it is over 60MB. I can try and have windows formatting the whole SDCARD to FAT32 (have to figure that one out) and maybe do a chkdsk on the drive.

  • I made the whole SDCARD a FAT32 partition, and reformatted it. Then I did a chkdsk and there were no errors. A surface test resulted in no bad sectors and there were 32356352 of them! So at this point either I stop and give up on this effort or find some other solution.

  • I just used the flasher tool of yours again and it still doesn't even get to the splash screen.

  • I think this should be closed as the new version is out and this is old now.
