Thumbdrive Compatibility

I'm trying to use my SanDisk 32GB thumb drive to transfer the 700MB Open GApps file, since it refuses to download directly to my device, but the thumb drive isn't recognized. Can anybody help me get the thumb drive mounted?

Assume I know nothing.

Did you try downloading to your PC and then pushing it to the RPi?
Example:

adb connect [pi address]
adb push opengapps-whatsoever.zip /sdcard/
adb reboot recovery
