Installed Emteria on Raspberry Pi 3 but VERY SLOW

As per title and runs so slow it's totally unusable.

  • Don't install GApps

For Google Play, maybe try MicroG or NanoDroid (which includes MicroG).

After installing OpenGapps it can run so slow. Which is why it's probably best to install the pico version (less resource intensive).

  • @Cee123 Thank you for sharing MicroG! Google Maps is working great! (Trying to figure out how to log in though)

  • @DSdavidDS Really? That's great! :D Yeah that's one problem with that microG thing. But somehow I managed to login with Nanodroid.

I had to give up my endeavours because I couldn't see the map in Google Maps while logged on. How did you get it to work/What changes if I use nanodroid?

    @DSdavidDS

If I remember, Nanodroid zip file installed a version of Google Play and a few Google apps after I flashed the zip file in the recovery mode. Google Play didn't work at first, and it kept updating something (it said it was updating Google Play) and so I kept trying it, and then it finally opened must've finished updating. Then it finally let me login like normal. After it just seemed to work. And it worked without the system optimization thing and all the lagging that Gapps always does.

If I remember, it was this link I found on the XDA website.
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-nanomod-5-0-20170405-microg-t3584928

And if I also remember correctly, I think it was this package/zip file I downloaded that was linked from there. Under current release on the XDA site.

Hope this helps. :( It must've been last year that I found the link so I'm not sure 100%.

Hi All, regarding the google maps I wrote about my experiences with satnav software here: https://forum.emteria.com/discussion/comment/3522. I was building satnav in-car device and I found that RPI 3 is not suitable for this purpose.

I've been successful in putting mine together. What are you getting stuck on?

I was able to successfully run the latest stable (0.7.1) with an official touch screen running OsmAnd (Maps) with a ublox gps module. Boot takes about 1min after my car starts up and GPS get's a lock in less than a minute (unless I get out a zone with weak connection like my garage which then takes 10-20mins).

  • Hi @DSdavidDS, I wrote about my problems in couple of threads on this forum. Worst problem was random freezing of whole system during driving the car. Restarting and entering the destination again and again in highway speed was pretty annoying. @kalkov suspects known SD card issue described here https://help.emteria.com/kb/devices-rpi-3#known-issues (Very rare hangs of the sdcard controller).

And my second problem - Waze is not able to work correctly on the RPI because serious displaying issues and again, frequent system freezing.

Is possible that your OsmAnd could work nicely, but did you try it on some longer trip?

Interesting. I haven't had any issues with my SD card (This is what I got https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCMBLV6).

I chose not to use Waze because it requires internet but it works great if I provide internet services through hotspot. OsmAnd has works for me great. Not really long distances but I have driven for 3 hours without turning off my car. I have yet to see it crash.
