USB card reader wrecked in the process of flashing

Hi everyone! Reporting that running the installer seems to have ruined my card reader. I executed installer version 0.5-9. And I used that version because the login was failing all the time trying to use version 0.6-13, always indicating some weird sql exceptions or something like that, don't remember well. I tried using that version for two days.

Anyway, back to v0.5-9, I managed to login, chose installation for Rasp 3B/B+ chose my drive, a 60 GB SD card on an external USB card reader. It downloaded the system and started to flash. Then all of a sudden it indicated the process has failed. The disk was no longer appearing among the letters, I couldn't eject it either, since there was nothing to eject on the list. At first I thought that my card was done for. I even tried to read it with testdisk, Win32Imager, MiniTool, Etcher on Raspbian SD card cloner, and no deal, the 60GB card wouldn't appear. Then I had the idea to put the card in a phone. It recognized as an unformatted card, that is, I think I didn't lose it. Only the card reader isn't working.Doesn't appear even among the devices in Device Manager.

It seems like I'm not the only one with this problem, as RDX exposed in this post:

Sending log so you can analyze. Seems to have been a Microsoft DiskPart error. (Note: error messages from diskpart are in BR Portuguese, so some characters are appearing in the form of \x-dec code)

  • Our installer is using the standard process of writing the data. I don't think your card reader is broken. It is way more probable that Windows fails to recognize a card which wasn't properly finalized (Diskpart errors confirm that). As you can see in the other thread you have mentioned, the problem wasn't a broken card reader, but rather Windows not assigning a drive letter.

So what is the solution to recover the sd card?

  • Assign the letter manually. Or you a Linux distro.
